Foi numa sala modesta, na KTCT Higher Secondary School, no sul da Índia, que, em março do ano passado, uma professora chamada Íris entrou para a história: não por ser brilhante — embora o fosse — mas por ser feita de metal e algoritmos. Vestia um sari, falava com firmeza. Era um robô. Mas chamaram-lhe professora. Íris ensina. Fala em três línguas. Move-se sobre rodas, responde a perguntas, ajusta conteúdos, reconhece padrões de atenção, interage com gestos simples. Tem memória infinita, paciência programada e um brilho mecânico nos olhos. Contudo, ao sabermos disto, talvez não seja o feito tecnológico que mais impressione, mas sim o aviso que encerra: estamos a assistir ao maior e mais rápido salto educativo da história. Até há poucas décadas, o ensino superior era privilégio. Hoje, segundo a UNESCO, mais de 250 milhões de estudantes estão matriculados no ensino superior em todo o mundo. Em 2040, serão cerca de 500 milhões. Uma multidão de futuros à procura de quem os oriente. Desde sempre, ensinar foi mais do que um ato técnico, foi um pacto de continuidade. A missão de garantir que o saber não se perdesse — que preparasse os que vêm depois. É esse pacto que permitiu à humanidade evoluir. Mas quem os espera? Quem os escuta, acompanha e desafia verdadeiramente? Faltam professores. E quando faltam pessoas, avançam as máquinas. Na China, a Pharmaceutical University já utiliza câmaras com inteligência artificial capazes de muito mais do que registar presenças. Monitorizam expressões, seguem movimentos oculares, avaliam níveis de atenção, detetam distrações como o uso do telemóvel ou a sonolência — e geram dados em tempo real sobre o comportamento dos estudantes. Este sistema, desenvolvido pela Megvii Technology Limited, levanta uma questão inquietante: será este o novo rosto da autoridade pedagógica? Na Índia, é Íris quem dá a lição. E não está sozinha. Desde 2024, surgiram robôs e sistemas em vários países. Em Hong Kong, avatares digitais lecionam pós-graduações. Na Suécia, o robô Furhat ensina com voz e expressão facial. Na Coreia do Sul, o chatbot GPTeens apoia adolescentes com conteúdos escolares. Nos Emirados, o robô NAO ensina ciências. E na Austrália, hologramas de professores chegam a escolas remotas. O espaço entre o humano e o automatizado estreita-se todos os dias. Há quem lhes chame inovação. E talvez o sejam. Mas a questão não é se os robôs vão ensinar. É se, com eles, ainda aprenderemos o que importa. E, sobretudo, quem decidirá o que importa aprender? Porque formar alguém nunca foi apenas transferir saber. É um gesto humano. Feito de hesitações, intuições, vínculos. Imperfeitos, mas insubstituíveis. Sim, o mundo exigirá novas competências. Sim, milhões terão de reaprender. Mas uma escola sem humanidade não educa — apenas processa. Íris é, talvez, apenas o princípio. Um reflexo. Esta semana, na China, foi anunciado o primeiro hospital do mundo operado exclusivamente por inteligência artificial — médicos, enfermeiros, diagnósticos, tudo automatizado. Se até o cuidado pode dispensar quem cuida, que espaço restará à escola para continuar a ser feita de presenças e vínculos?
